The ICC Men's One Day Cricket World Cup 2027 schedule is out, and Indian cricket fans do not have to wait long for the big games. India will open their campaign against Australia on October 7 in Cape Town, followed by the India-Pakistan clash on October 10 in Johannesburg.
The One Day tournament begins on October 2 and ends with the final on November 21. It will be played across host country South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia, with 14 teams taking part in 57 matches.
But the schedule is not quite as simple as the usual group stage followed by semi-finals and a final. The 2027 edition has a Super 7 stage, which could make the race for the semi-finals interesting right until the end.

Semi-finals and Final
| Date | Match | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| 17 November 2027 | Semi-Final 1 | Cape Town |
| 18 November 2027 | Semi-Final 2 | Tshwane |
| 21 November 2027 | Final | Johannesburg |
The top four teams from the Super 7 qualify for the semi-finals. The Super 7 leader plays fourth place, while second place faces third place.
The World Cup actually starts on October 2
There is a small detail that can easily be missed when looking at the main fixture list. The first action starts in Windhoek, Namibia, on October 2.
Three of the lowest-ranked teams from the qualifying process will play a short Super Series. The matches are scheduled for October 2, 4 and 6. Only the team finishing first will get into the main World Cup group stage.
So, technically, the World Cup starts before the big teams arrive on the schedule. For the top sides, though, the main competition starts on October 7.
Each team plays five Group Stage matches. Here is where the format gets a little unusual: the top three teams from each group qualify for the next round, but there is also a place for the better fourth-placed team. That means a team sitting fourth going into its final match can still have something very important to play for.
Then comes the Super 7
This is the part of the 2027 World Cup that fans may need a second look at. Seven teams will move into the Super 7. Each will play six matches, with the games running from October 25 to November 14.
And there is one major difference from some other tournament formats: Group Stage points do not carry over. In simple terms, doing well in the first round gets you into the Super 7, but it does not give you a points advantage there. Everyone starts that stage again, which could make the second half of the tournament much less predictable.
India, Australia and Pakistan have been given the A1, A2 and A3 positions respectively, while New Zealand, South Africa and Sri Lanka hold B1, B2 and B3. England occupy the AB4 position. Some of the scheduled Super 7 fixtures therefore already have familiar names attached to them.
What happens after the Super 7?
There is no long wait once the second stage finishes. The top four teams will go straight into the semi-finals.
| Stage | Date | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| Semi-final 1 | November 17 | Cape Town |
| Semi-final 2 | November 18 | Tshwane |
| Final | November 21 | Johannesburg |
| Final reserve day | November 22 | Johannesburg |
The first-placed Super 7 team plays fourth, while second faces third. And then it comes down to the Wanderers on November 21. The venue already has an India-Pakistan game on the calendar, and it is also where the World Cup trophy will be decided if the final goes ahead as planned.
A long countdown starts now
The schedule gives fans something concrete to look forward to, but there is still plenty of time before October 2027. Squads can change, players can lose form, youngsters can break into teams and the two qualifying teams will only be known later.
That is part of what makes a World Cup schedule fun to follow this far ahead. A fixture that looks one-sided today can feel very different a year later.
