With 292 players available for sale and 61 slots to fill the gap, the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to entertain the cricket enthusiasts. The eight IPL franchises are ready again to entertain the people of India and abroad with some extremely exciting and challenging matches.
There are 57 players who were bought by these 8 franchises and a whopping amount of 145.3 crore was disbursed at the mini-auction. The owners of these franchises have again showed a great interest in the purchasing of overseas players and 57 players were sold at different amount.
The South-African all-rounder Chris Morris becomes the most expensive player of this IPL auction 2021 by breaking the all-time record for Rs.16.25 crores when he was bought by Rajasthan Royals. Earlier, this record was set on the name of India top cricket player Yuvraj Singh when the player fetched Rs.16 crores in 2015.
Batting superstar Steve Smith fetched the amount of Rs. 2.2 crore and set a record of being the first cricketer to be sold to the Delhi Capitals. His base price set by the IPL officials was Rs. 2 crores.
Punjab Kings picked up Riley Meredith for Rs 8 crore and made him the most expensive overseas uncapped player.
CSK also surprised the fans and people available in the event by picking up India Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara, while Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Rider took some time to buy Kedar Jadhav and Harbhajan Singh. Mumbai Indians spent Rs 20 lakh on left-arm pacer Arjun Tendulkar, who was the son of Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
