Most ODI Hundreds for India: Indian Batters with the Most Centuries

If you are looking for the Indian batter with the most hundreds in ODI cricket, the answer is Virat Kohli. He has 55 ODI centuries. Sachin Tendulkar is second with 49, and Rohit Sharma is third with 34.

Kohli added his 55th hundred against West Indies in September 2026, scoring 139 not out in Thiruvananthapuram. That innings came just a day after the ICC noted that he was close to 15,000 ODI runs.

Top 10 ODI Hundreds by Indian Batters:

    Player ODI hundreds ODI runs
    Virat Kohli 55 15,080
    Sachin Tendulkar 49 18,426
    Rohit Sharma 34 11,927
    Sourav Ganguly 22 11,363
    Shikhar Dhawan 17 6,793
    Virender Sehwag 15 7,995
    Yuvraj Singh 14 8,609
    Rahul Dravid 12 10,768
    Gautam Gambhir 11 5,238
    MS Dhoni 9 10,599

Figures are based on ODI records available in September 2026.

Kohli has gone from chasing 50 to reaching 55:

For a long time, the big number in this conversation was 49. That belonged to Sachin Tendulkar.

Kohli reached 49 during the 2023 World Cup and then went past Tendulkar with his 50th century against New Zealand in the semi-final. It was one of those records that had been attached to Tendulkar's name for years.

Now the gap is six hundred. And Kohli is still playing ODI cricket. He scored his 54th hundred against New Zealand in January 2026 and then followed it with his 55th against West Indies in September.

That makes the current top of the list look quite different from a few years ago.

    Sachin's 49 still stands out:

Tendulkar's 49 ODI centuries came in 463 matches, along with 18,426 runs. He finished his ODI career in 2012.

There is one number that puts his career into perspective: 463. He played ODI cricket for more than two decades, through several changes in the format. The 49 hundred came from that long career rather than from the shorter schedules modern players have faced.

And then there is the 200 not out against South Africa in 2010. Tendulkar became the first men's ODI batter to score a double hundred.

So even though Kohli now sits above him in the century column, Tendulkar's overall ODI numbers remain huge.

    Rohit's 34 hundreds come with a 264:

Rohit Sharma is third with 34 ODI hundreds.

His century count is impressive on its own, but his highest score is the number most cricket fans remember: 264 against Sri Lanka in 2014. It remains the highest individual score in men's ODI cricket. Rohit has three ODI double hundreds, too.

That is a slightly different kind of record from the one Kohli and Tendulkar have. Kohli has built his list through repeated hundreds across many seasons. Rohit has had several innings where a big score became a really big score.

    Ganguly is still fourth:

Sourav Ganguly sits fourth among Indian ODI century-makers with 22 hundred. His ODI career ended in 2007, but his 11,363 runs and 22 centuries still keep him ahead of every Indian batter outside the top three.

Then comes Shikhar Dhawan with 17. Dhawan's ODI career had a strong connection with major tournaments. He finished with 6,793 runs and 17 hundred from 164 innings.

Virender Sehwag is next with 15. Yuvraj Singh has 14.

Those numbers may look close on paper, but the players had very different jobs in India's batting line-up.

A few names lower down the list:

Rahul Dravid made 12 ODI centuries. He scored 10,768 runs in the format.

Gautam Gambhir finished with 11 hundred, while MS Dhoni ended his ODI career with nine.

Dhoni's total is an interesting one because his ODI batting record was not built around hundreds. He scored 10,599 runs and had 73 fifties, but only nine hundred.

That is a useful reminder when looking at this list: a century count does not tell the whole story of an ODI batter.

The top three at a glance:

    Batter Hundreds Highest ODI score
    Virat Kohli 55 183
    Sachin Tendulkar 49 200*
    Rohit Sharma 34 264

Tendulkar has the biggest score of the three, Rohit owns the overall ODI record of 264, and Kohli currently leads the century count.

That is what makes India's ODI numbers interesting. The same three names appear again and again, but for very different reasons.
